Boulder Family Law: Mediation & Arbitration

Boulder Divorce Mediator: Sheila Carrigan

Sheila Carrigan is a trained and experienced divorce mediator in Boulder who can help your family resolve conflicts outside a courtroom. She is a skilled litigator and former judge who knows what judges will and won’t allow and will help ensure that all mediated agreements are in the best interests of families and children.

A mediator does not primarily look out for the individual interests of either party, but rather helps the two sides understand the legal and non-legal issues at stake and facilitates a fair and workable resolution, constructed by the parties themselves that a judge will approve. Family law mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution where an impartial third party (the mediator) assists people to negotiate their own settlement out of court.

Arbitration is an out-of-court form of dispute resolution where people agree to be bound to the decision of an impartial third party (the arbitrator). Parties to a family law matter often agree to use a particular arbitrator to resolve future conflicts without the need to return to court.

As a former judge, Sheila Carrigan is well-suited to calmly and compassionately assume the authority you grant to her to make decisions for your family in the event that you are unable to arrive at an agreement alone.
